Former Boston College defensive end Max Holloway was killed Thursday morning in a car accident in his hometown of Lutz, Fla.
“We are all shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic news,’’ BC coach Steve Addazio said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Max’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.’’
Max Holloway, 26, was the son of Brian Holloway, who played offensive tackle for the Patriots for six years (1981-86) and started for them in Super Bowl XX.
Max Holloway was a three-year letterman for BC from 2009-11 before he declared early for the NFL Draft in January 2012.
He finished fourth on the Eagles in tackles in 2011 with 47.
For his BC career, he played in 34 games and finished with 99 tackles and 7½ sacks.
“The entire Boston College athletic department sends their prayers and condolences to Max’s family and friends,’’ said BC athletic director Brad Bates.
