Boy Scout Troop 506, of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, is pleased to recognize Augustine “Gus” Wilson for earning his Eagle Scout rank.

He was honored by the the troop at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor Jan. 2.

Gus is a senior at Medina High School and has completed the requirements for Boy Scouts’ highest rank. Gus’ scouting career included attending summer camps at Manatoc and Firelands. He also attended a high-adventure sailing trip to Sea Base in Florida and a canoe trip to the Northern Tier Boundary Waters in Minnesota.

For Gus’ Eagle Scout service project, he installed Wounded Warrior parking signs throughout Medina County. This project included raising more than $400 and involved over 50 volunteer hours to complete. In addition to earning the 21 required merit badges for the rank of Eagle, Gus had earned a Bronze Eagle Palm, which represents an additional five Merit Badges.

According to the Boy Scouts of America, only 4 percent of all boys who join the Scouting movement attain the highest rank of Eagle.

Troop 506 was chartered in 1975 and provides area boys leadership training and guidance. Troop 506 meets on Monday evenings from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. in the basement of St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St. Medina. Boy Scouts is open to all boys 11 to 18. Troop events include weekly meetings, monthly campouts, and a weeklong summer camp in July.
