Cherie Currie, the former lead singer of the Runaways, will headline a benefit for the Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth on June 11, organizers said Monday. The 21-plus show at the Brighton Music Hall will also feature Currie’s pal, glam rocker Gene Dante. For over 30 years, the Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth has been helping LGBTQ kids to access health services in the city. An all-female rock band formed in LA in the 1970s, the Runaways were never commercially successful, but they influenced generations of girls with guitars (and drums). In addition to Currie, the band included Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jettand Lita Ford.
