Wadsworth Police Department
Nov. 16 – Police officers responded to the 900 block of Broad Street at approximately 4:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. After an investigation officers discovered that the subject of the welfare check, Madison Garland, 22, of Broad Street, had an outstanding warrant. Garland was arrested and released into the custody of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Wadsworth Police DepartmentNov. 17 – Police officers responded to the 100 block of East Bergey Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. in reference to a report of a disabled vehicle on the street. After a brief investigation officers found several items of possible contraband. The items were sent to the lab for testing and charges are pending lab results.

Nov. 17 – Police officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Main Street at approximately 1:10 p.m. for a welfare check. The female they were checking on was found to be deceased from apparent natural causes.

Nov. 17 – Police officers responded to a business on Ambassador Drive at approximately 5:50 p.m. after personnel notified them about finding alleged drug contraband on the premises. Police officers seized the items for destruction. There are no suspects in this case.

Nov. 17 – Police officers responded to a grocery store in the 200 block of High Street at approximately 2:45 p.m. in reference to a report of a disorderly disturbance between two customers inside the business. The disturbance was apparently a result of previous personal issues between the two parties involved. After an investigation Katherine Bates, 49, of Mills Street, was cited for disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor.

Nov. 15 – Police officers responded to the 600 block of High Street at approximately 5:25 p.m. to take a report about a witness being intimidated. The case is currently under investigation.

Nov. 15 – Police officers responded to a Smokerise Drive retail store at approximately 8:20 p.m. in reference to a report of a theft. The incident is currently under investigation.

Nov. 13 – Police officers took a report from a Red Rock Drive resident about a possible online scam. The matter is currently under investigation.

Nov. 13 – Wadsworth Municipal Court issued a warrant for Marshall Gadd for failure to appear for sentencing on an OVI violation.

Nov. 13 – The police department received a report about a theft that took place at a Smokerise Drive retail store Oct. 29. The incident is under investigation.

Nov. 12 – A resident from the 400 block of North Lyman Street contacted the police department to report that someone damaged her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. A report was taken.

Nov. 12 – Wadsworth Municipal Court issued a warrant for Krista Patterson for a probation violation.

Nov. 12 – A resident from the 100 block of Third Street reported an incident of telecommunications harassment. A report was taken.

Norton Police Department

Nov. 9 – A ride-share driver told police a drunken passenger he knew only as “Steve” was unruly and asked to leave the vehicle. The driver later found a smartphone in the vehicle and turned it in to the police station.

Nov. 9 – A 23-year-old Norton Avenue woman told police someone stole the temporary tag off her vehicle.

Nov. 9 – Police pulled a car over on state Route 21 for a marked lane violation and allegedly found a small amount of marijuana in the glove box. They weren’t able to establish the owner so it was seized but no one was cited.

Nov. 8 – Around 1:15 p.m., a vehicle allegedly made too wide a turn from Wadsworth Road onto Cleveland-Massillon Road heading south and hit another vehicle in the driver’s side and kept going. The victim reportedly turned around and followed until the offending vehicle stopped near the Interstate 76 ramps. An officer arrived and allegedly determined the driver of the turning car, Jeffrey A. Data, 55, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slow, slurred speech. Data reportedly refused field sobriety and breath tests and was arrested for OVI. Police say he also refused to sign the citation, which also included a marked lanes charge. Police say a witness corroborated the victim’s account of what happened.

Nov. 8 – Police say a car with a cracked windshield and a loud exhaust failed to signal a turn going from Cleveland-Massillon to Greenwich road around 9:20 p.m. The officer followed it until it turned in to the parking lot of a Norton Avenue business and the officer performed a traffic stop there. The officer allegedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the car. The officer asked a couple times where the pot smell might be coming from and the driver, William H. Britton, 48, reportedly admitted it was in his coat pocket. A check showed Britton had a suspended license but was driving within his privileges. He was cited for the weed, the loud exhaust and the cracked windshield and released.

Nov. 7 – Someone passed a fake $100 bill at a Greenwich Road store.

Nov. 7 – An officer on stationary patrol on Interstate 76 pulled a car over for having a headlight out. While talking with the driver, Justin E. McDaniel, 32, the officer allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana. During a pat-down, the officer reportedly found a large bulge in McDaniel’s left sock that turned out to be a bag with 16.5 grams of pot. He was cited for the weed and the equipment violation and released.

Nov. 6 – A man allegedly went into a Cleveland-Massillon Road store and tried to buy a $10 with a fake $100. The bill failed counterfeit tests and was returned to the man and he was sent away. There was no security video.

Nov. 6 – Joseph A. Gibson, 48, was being released from the Medina County Jail but had a misdemeanor warrant out of Norton. He was picked up and turned over to a bailiff at Barberton Municipal Court.

Nov. 6 – Police allegedly spotted a car running in a Hametown Road driveway and were aware at the home because of an occupant fleeing earlier. The car left and pulled in to a nearby Eastern Road business; a young man allegedly got out and ran in to the store. The officer followed him in and identified him as Kyle C. Sears, 33, wanted on a felony warrant out of the Adult Parole Authority. He was arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail.

Nov. 5 – A 69-year-old Krancz Drive woman told police she got a call from a company that said they were working for Microsoft and she needed to renew the anti-virus software on her computer for $399.99. She gave them her credit card information and Social Security number. After talking to a family member and being informed it was a scam, she called the bank and canceled the card before any charges were put on it. But when she tried to use her computer, it no longer worked. Police advised her to call the Social Security Administration about the incident, since her number was now compromised.
