13 Iranian guards killed in attack

DAMASCUS — Iranian news reports said 13 members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards were killed last week during an attack by militants in northern Syria. A semiofficial news agency, Tasnim, quoted a Revolutionary Guard spokesman as saying they were killed when a coalition of insurgents seized the village of Khan Touman from progovernment forces. Also Saturday, Russia, at its own initiative, said it would extend a shaky cease-fire in Aleppo, Syria, for 72 hours.
