Shed’s BBQ is now open for business in downtown crossing. The Texas-style barbecue eatery at 32 Bromfield St. held its grand opening on Wednesday. And remember SoulFire, the beloved Allston barbecue spot that closed in January? A new Korean restaurant called BBQ Chicken has opened in its place at 182 Harvard Ave.

Speaking of barbecue, Andy Husbands and Chris Hart have a new cookbook out. It’s called “Pitmaster: Recipes, Techniques, and Barbecue Wisdom,’’ and they’ll be hosting a book launch party on April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Smoke Shop in Cambridge. Admission is $25.40 per person.

And in other news (not related to barbecue), Jay Murray, the former executive chef of Grill 23 & Bar in Boston, has joined Alba Restaurant in Quincy. We also hear that Alba owner Leo Keka plans to introduce a new menu this spring.

To celebrate the Red Sox home opener, the South Street Diner is giving away free Fenway franks (all you can eat!) to anyone who buys a beer between 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on April 3.

What’s better than dinner and a movie? How ’bout a French film paired with French cuisine? That’s exactly what’s offered on Monday nights at La Voile at 1627 Beacon St. in Brookline. Since general manager Adrien Descarpentries introduced the concept to the French restaurant, his movie nights have been a hit with customers. On deck for Monday will be the 2012 film “Haute Cuisine.’’
