Little shaker, big ideas

“Finishing salt’’ is the last-minute sprinkle of coarse salt over a bowl of pasta, a plate of hummus, or a tray of sliced tomatoes before it leaves the kitchen. To do it right, it helps to have a shaker made for the job. Almost 6 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter, Olipac’s new stainless steel shaker ($19.99) has the feel of a utensil meant for serious seasoning. The holes are larger than what you’re used to, so a few swift sprinkles are all you need for the right amount of salting. The shaker is filled through a hole at the bottom that’s fitted with a cover that snaps tightly in place and keeps the salt where it belongs. Available at Eastman’s Home & Hardware Store, 150 Main St., Falmouth, 508-548-0407; Kitchen Outfitters, Acton Woods Plaza, 342 Great Road, Acton, 978-263-1955; and KitchenWares by Blackstones, 215 Newbury St., Boston, 857-366-4237.
