The Globe’s support for Medication-Assisted Treatment, or MAT, is a reasoned and welcome call for a response to the heroin addiction crisis that has proved to be successful (“Make it easier to get methadone treatment,’’ Editorial, July 24).
Medication-Assisted Treatment is an important piece of the puzzle, but each piece is essential and interrelated. This is an all-hands-on-deck crisis that each month takes a growing toll on individuals, families, the economy, the law-enforcement and criminal justice systems, and health care providers.
We can no longer pretend that Massachusetts can solve the addiction crisis without substantial additional investments in residential treatment beds, higher reimbursement rates, and great access to behavioral health therapy.
Working together, we can build a path from addiction to recovery with a comprehensive approach to this urgent public health crisis.
