Paul Bicksler, the store’s owner (left), presented Brunswick resident John Sowinski with his new Samsung 55-inch LED 4K TV.
Although Brunswick resident John Sowinski said not picking the Browns was an important part of his strategy this year, he still roots for them throughout the regular season.
In an NFL season full of controversy, upsets and one local team's "perfect" season, Brunswick's John Sowinski might be the the most accomplished of them all.
Competing against more than 2,000 players from The Post's circulation area, as well as thousands more on a national scale, Sowinski reigned supreme over his competitors in the fifth annual installment of The Post's Goal Post Pro Football Challenge after picking the underdog Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl LII.
He and other local football fans had the opportunity to win great prizes from us every single week simply by guessing which NFL teams would be bringing home a win each week during the NFL season. While the competition was fierce, risking it all with the underdog pick ultimately catapulted Sowinski into first place with an overall score of 199 points. His prize was a Samsung 55-inch LED 4K TV courtesy of Bicksler Appliance and TV Center in Wadsworth.
"I have a big monstrosity (TV at home), it's like 300 lbs.," Sowinski said. "So this (new TV) will be great."
In addition to the grand prize, The Post also offered prizes every week to winners in each of our nine local Post editions. As the local Brunswick winner, Sowinski is also going home with a $100 gift card to Shinto in Strongsville.
He said his picking strategy throughout the season remained constant.
"I just made sure to pick the hot teams, and I stayed away from the Browns," he chuckled, adding that he still likes to root for the home team.
When it came down to picking the winner of the final game, he admitted he had to take a gamble.
"I thought most of (my opponents) would pick the Patriots, so I had to take Philadelphia," he said. "I'm glad it worked out."
For the readers at home who also guessed the Eagles would take home the Vince Lombardi trophy, but didn't throw your hat in the ring of Goal Post competitors, rest easy. As Browns fans often say, "there's always next year!"
