What a relief — a nice, civil exchange among voters

I had an interesting experience recently. After a business networking meeting, I was speaking with two guys about politics. Both were successful, intelligent, and really good guys. One was voting for Hillary Clinton, the other for Donald Trump. While we all expressed our concerns surrounding the country and the candidates, the conversation remained respectful, intense, and educational.

No one called anyone a Nazi, a racist, a homophobe, or a deplorable, hate-filled bigot. No one even threatened to “unfriend’’ anyone for disagreeing with them (I can’t even write that without laughing — Facebook has certainly brought the child out in all of us).

At the conclusion of the conversation, two things did not change — anyone’s decision on whom they would be supporting for president, and the friendships that were in place before the subject came up. It was a nice eye-opener.
