Old Rochester senior Danny Renwick opened the Division 5 indoor track championships at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday afternoon with a riveting victory in the 55-meter hurdles. A few hours later, he ended the night as the anchor of the Bulldogs’ 4x400 relay team that secured the title.
“I just tried to do my part,’’ said Renwick.
“Coming into the season we definitely had our eyes set on this and it is really nice to be able to execute.’’
It was the first boys’ indoor track title in program history.
The Williams College-bound Renwick (7.71 seconds) edged Lynnfield junior David Pittilini (7.72) by the smallest margin possible, and in the process, set the state’s fastest time this season in the 55 hurdles.
The versatile senior then went on to set a meet record in the high jump (6 feet 8¼ inches).
Entering the final event, Old Rochester trailed Newburyport by 2 points, but Renwick and his mates in the 4x400 — classmate Eli Spevack, along with sophomores Anthony Childs and Adam Sylvia — ran away for the victory.
“The kids have wanted this right from the get-go. We knew we had the athletes, but you still have got to get everything to happen,’’ said Old Rochester coach Bill Tilden.
Newburyport (38), Oakmont (33), North Reading (30), and Lynnfield (26) rounded out the top five teams.
Littleton girls roll
The Littleton girls put last year’s runner-up finish in the rearview mirror with a convincing victory, earning a 13-point difference, 49-36, over South Hadley.
Sophomore twins Sarah (5:04.14) and Kaitlyn Roffman (5:12.90) finished first and second, respectively, in the mile, while Sarah also placed second in the 1,000 (3:04.02).
Littleton clinched the state crown with a first in the 4x800.
Oakmont Regional sophomore Alyssa Marden set a meet record with her performance in the 300 (40.30), topping the mark (40.89) set two years ago by Krista Fernandes (Coyle & Cassidy).
Amesbury tied with North Reading and Oakmont for third in large part due to the performance of junior Michaela Halloran, who finished third in the mile (5:15.27) and sixth in the 2-mile (11:46.24).
Amesbury junior Skylar Snay set a meet record (7.33 seconds) in winning the 55 dash.
