Northeastern falls in overtime

Cameron Johnson scored 21 points and host Charleston beat Northeastern, 68-61, in overtime on Thursday night.

NU (12-10, 4-5 Colonial Athletic) failed to score in OT until 19 seconds remained. The Cougars improved to 13-7, 5-4.

The Huskies were led by Jeremy Miller with 17 points and nine rebounds. Charleston’s Payton Hulsey tied it at 58 on a layup with 28 seconds in regulation, and NU’s David Walker (13 points) missed a 3-pointer at the horn to prompt overtime.

Northeastern played without Quincy Ford, who sat out because of an upper-body injury. The Huskies also announced they will travel to Germany to participate in the Basketball Aid International Tour 2016. The dates were not announced.

Cincinnati 58, UConn 57 — Gary Clark’s 3-point play with 12 seconds left lifted the Bearcats (16-6, 6-3 American) over the Huskies (14-6, 4-3) in Hartford.

Sterling Gibbs (14 points) missed a jumper on UConn’s final possession. Shonn Miller could not put in a follow-up and Jalen Adams’s desperation shot at the buzzer hit the rim and bounced away.

Maryland 74, Iowa 68 — At College Park, Md., Robert Carter Jr. and Rasheed Sulaimon each scored 17 points as the No. 8 Terrapins (18-3, 7-3 Big Ten) ended a nine-game win streak by the No. 3 Hawkeyes (16-4, 7-1).
