Reports that Jeff Glor is about to be replaced as anchor of the ‘‘CBS Evening News’’ aren’t true, at least according to sources close to the former WHDH-TV (Channel 7) reporter.
Last week, The New York Post floated a rumor that Glor (inset), who took over the anchor chair once occupied by Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather barely six months ago, is about to be pushed out because of lackluster ratings. The Post said the “CBS Evening News’’ has lost nearly 1.5 million viewers since Glor got the gig in December 2017, and CBS News president David Rhodes is none too pleased.
But sources close to Glor say it’s all nonsense. They point to an internal memo, sent out after the Post story appeared, in which CBS News President David Rhodes says it’s “not true’’ that a change is being contemplated, and added “we have complete confidence in Jeff Glor.’’
Before Glor got the job, “CBS Evening News’’ had slipped to third place, behind ABC’s “World News Tonight,’’ anchored by David Muir, and NBC’s “Nightly News,’’ anchored by Lester Holt. But CBS brass were hopeful that the fresh-faced Glor could attract new viewers.
A graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Glor joined CBS News a decade ago after a four-year stint as weekend evening news anchor and a weekday reporter at WHDH-TV. His wife, Nicole, is a New York-based publicist with Regan Communications and also a personal trainer.
Glor, who’ll be in Singapore next week for the summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’’ Friday.
