Early forecast calls for April . . . snow?

The home opener for the Red Sox and the first homestand of a new season at Fenway Park usually is a sign of spring.

But not this year.

The forecast for the Sox’ three-game set against the Rays is cold, occasionally dreary, and . . . snowy (of course), according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday’s 2:05 p.m. opener will be sunny and windy, with a high temperature of 43. The Sox are off Friday (a built-in day off in case of a weather postponement for the opener), which looks rainy and snowy, as does Saturday, Game 2 of the Rays series (1:05 p.m.). There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation on Saturday — rain or snow — with a high of 40.

Sunday (1:05 p.m. start) looks mostly sunny, but chilly, in the low 40s.
