Most of us on Cape Cod have been familiar for decades now with artist Susan Baker’s T-shirt design, “Our Evacuation Plan: Swim East.’’ It says it all.

More than 20 years ago, when I lived in an apartment right on the bay, I was part of a citizen radiation-monitoring network along the coast that, for several years, took twice-daily readings and logged them along with wind direction and other weather-related details. We routinely saw radiation spikes when the wind was coming from the direction of the Pilgrim nuclear plant.

We wrote letters. We protested. We marched. Living downwind from this failed plant causes us to frequently ponder the “what if’’ scenario.

Enough is enough. Shut it down.
