Behind Mike Vasil’s four-hitter, the top-ranked BC High baseball team rolled to a 7-2 win over fourth-ranked Lincoln-Sudbury on Monday at Monan Park.

It was an uphill battle early on for the Eagles as they fell behind, 2-0, in the second when Thomas Garcia-Meitin and Adam Generoso drove in runs for the Warriors.

The Eagles answered in the bottom half with three runs, even though they had just one hit. With runners on second and third, Tim Burns flared a single the opposite way to left field to cut the deficit.

BC High then loaded the bases when Lincoln-Sudbury starter Ryan Cusick hit right fielder Joe Kessinger on the arm. With the infield in and No. 9 hitter Kyle Burke up, Cusick got the ground ball he needed right back at him, but he airmailed the throw home.

Pat Rafferty then gave the Eagles the lead with an RBI groundout to second.

The next inning, Cusick put the first three BC High batters on with two walks and a hit batsman. Ian Herel came on to replace Cusick.

Herel got Austin LeBlanc to ground one back to him and he flipped for the out at the plate.

On the play, Joe Roddy’s slide upended catcher Generoso. The play looked clean but Herel didn’t think so as he got right in Roddy’s face.

Herel was ejected and Lincoln-Sudbury (12-3) was forced to bring in another pitcher.

BC High (13-4) took full advantage. Burns walked on four pitches from righthander Rory Bordiuk and Kessinger and Rafferty roped singles into left field that contributed to a four-run inning for the Eagles.

“Today we got the hits when we needed to get the hits,’’ BC High coach Norm Walsh said. “I think three of the four hits came in that one inning to take advantage of the walks and we haven’t done that in every game.’’

The seven runs is all Vasil needed, even on a day he said he didn’t have his best stuff. Vasil struck out two and allowed six hits, half the total he had allowed in 40 innings entering the game.

The BC High defense, though, was solid behind the sophomore righthander, turning four double plays.

“[Vasil] is not afraid to put the ball in play because of the way we play defense,’’ Walsh said.
