The Philadelphia 76ers have become the first team in the NBA to put a sponsorship logo on player uniforms, striking a deal with StubHub for a spot on one of the hottest pieces of real estate available in sports. StubHub, a website that connects ticket buyers and sellers, will have its logo appear on the front left of the jersey in 2017-18 for the start of a three-year trial period. The NBA becomes the first of the four major sports leagues to allow the corporate sponsorship patch, a step that the NFL, Major League Baseball, and NHL have yet to take. ‘‘I’ve always been jealous of the English Premier League teams. NASCAR figured it out a long time ago,’’ 76ers CEO Scott O’Neil said. ‘‘For some reason, the big four sports in North America have not. I think it’s an unbelievable opportunity.’’ . . . Terry Stotts, who coached the Portland Trail Blazers to the second round of the playoffs, has agreed to a three-year contract extension, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations . . . Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas will not play in Game 1 and could miss the entire Eastern Conference finals against the Cavaliers because of an injured right ankle . . . Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was the unanimous winner of the Rookie of the Year award, giving the Wolves back-to-back honorees after forward Andrew Wiggins won the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy last season. Altidore is out for US teamAmerican forward Jozy Altidore appears certain to miss the Copa America following yet another hamstring injury. Altidore, who hasn’t scored for Toronto in Major League Soccer this season, got hurt Saturday while taking a penalty kick against Vancouver. Toronto said he will be sidelined 6-8 weeks. The US opens against Colombia on June 3 at Santa Clara, Calif.
COLLEGE footballUConn extends Diaco’s dealUConn football coach Bob Diaco agreed to a two-year contract extension designed to keep him in Storrs through the 2020 football season, the school said. The deal will pay the 43-year-old Diaco $2 million in 2019 and $2.1 million in 2020. Diaco, a former defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, is entering his third season as a head coach. He was 2-10 in his first year at UConn and 6-7 last season, including a 16-10 loss to Marshall in the St. Petersburg Bowl . . . UMass’s game against Tulane on Oct. 1, originally scheduled for Gillette Stadium, will instead by played at McGuirk Stadium in Hadley.

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne is eligible to play for the Fiji sevens rugby team at the Olympics and as early as the world series event in London this weekend, World Rugby said. Hayne announced on Sunday he was quitting the NFL after one season.
