
Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss 6-8 weeks with an undisclosed injury, team general manager Jim Rutherford announced Saturday. ESPN.com reported that Malkin suffered an upper-body injury. He left Friday night’s game following a collision with Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Dalton Prout and headed back to Pittsburgh for further examination. With four weeks left in the regular season, the injury would sideline Malkin through at least the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs . . . Don Henderson, the linesman knocked to the ice by Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman in January, is still recovering from the concussion he suffered when his head hit the boards, and is out for the season, according to the NHL Officials Association.
Pride win NWHL title
Brianna Decker had two goals and an assist as the Boston Pride beat the Buffalo Beauts, 3-1, in Newark to win the National Women’s Hockey League’s inaugural Isobel Cup. The Pride swept the best-of-three series. Decker was named Isobel Cup MVP, and the Pride hung the No. 24 jersey of Denna Laing behind their bench. Laing suffered a severe spinal cord injury whle playing for the Pride during an NHL Winter Classic exhibition in Foxborough on Dec. 31.

Iguodala out 2 weeks
Warriors forward Andre Iguodala will miss at least two weeks due to a sprained left ankle. Iguodala got hurt in the second half of Golden State’s win over Portland on Friday . . . Grizzlies guard Mike Conley will be out at least 3-4 weeks because of Achilles’ tendinitis in his left foot, after which he will be re-evaluated . . . Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams will not return to the team this season following his wife’s Ingrid death in a car accident last month in Oklahoma City, the team announced Friday . . . Sixers forward Robert Covington was released from the hospital after a scary collision with teammate Jerami Grant during Friday’s game. Covington, who was inadvertently struck in the head by Grant’s right foot, entered the league’s concussion protocol and did not play in Saturday’s game against the Pistons. Grant was also tested for a concussion, results of which were unknown.

Rookie Seager ailing
Dodgers rookie shortstop Corey Seager will be out up to two weeks with a sprained left knee. Seager underwent an MRI on Saturday, and Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said it ‘‘all looks good.’’ Pain in the knee forced Seager to leave Friday’s game . . . Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman left Friday’s spring training game because of discomfort around his right hand and wrist, ESPN.com reported. The Braves removed Freeman from the game for precautionary reasons after the second inning. Freeman was hampered by a right wrist injury for much of last season and missed 44 games.

Andrew Wenger had a goal and two assists in the first half and the Houston Dynamo routed visiting FC Dallas, 5-0. Wenger, acquired from Philadelphia in the offseason, notched his second goal of the season in the 27th minute . . . Dominic Dwyer scored two first-half goals and Sporting Kansas City picked up a 2-1 home win over the Vancouver Whitecaps . . . Jamison Olave scored on a header in the 86th minute to lift host Real Salt Lake over the Seattle Sounders, 2-1, in Sandy, Utah . . . Ignacio Piatti scored his third goal of the season to help the Impact beat the New York Red Bulls, 3-0, in their home opener at Olympic Stadium in Montreal . . . Marco Pappa scored in the 95th and final minute to give the Colorado Rapids a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in their home opener . . . Chris Pontius scored two goals in the Philadelphia Union’s 2-1 victory over the host Columbus Crew.

IndyCar gets started
Team Penske swept the top four spots in qualifying for the IndyCar season opener in St. Petersburg, Fla., with Will Power taking the pole in a record time. Power broke his own track record three times. His best time around the streets of the city was in the second session, but he won the pole in the third session at 1 minute, 0.2450 seconds. The record set in his second session was 1:00.0658 . . . Michael Barnes won the Daytona 200 motorcycle race at age 47 to become the oldest champion in the event at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

Snowmobile hits teams
A man suspected of intentionally driving a snowmobile into teams of two mushers near the front of the Iditarod dog sled race was arrested in Alaska. Arnold Demoski, 26, of Nulato was arrested on suspicion of assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and six counts of criminal mischief. The crash killed one dog and injured at least three others. Demoski told the Alaska Dispatch News that he had not intentionally driven into the dog teams, but he had blacked out while returning from drinking in another village.

QB Prescott arrested
Former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was arrested early Saturday on a DUI charge, according to police in Starkville, Miss. The pro prospect had worked out for all 30 NFL teams two days earlier at MSU’s pro day . . . Australian Open tennis champion Angelique Kerber lost in the second round of BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Calif., to Denisa Allertova, 7-5, 7-5 . . . Dominik Paris won the next-to-last downhill ski race of the World Cup season in Kvitfjell, Norway, leaving the fight for the discipline title wide open. Paris trails Italian teammate Peter Fill by 4 points going into the final race at St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Wednesday . . . Melatonin, a 16-1 shot, won the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap in Arcadia, Calif., by 4¼ lengths while beating a less than stellar field in the Grade 1 race . . . Olympian Matt Centrowitz held off Robby Andrews to win the 1,500 meters at the US indoor track and field championships in Portland, Ore. In the women’s pole vault, Sandi Morris upset world record-holder Jenn Suhr with a personal best of 16 feet, 2¾ inches. Vashti Cunningham, the daughter of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham, broke the record for the high jump this season when she cleared 6 feet, 6 ¼ inches.
