Brad Richards tied the game with 31.8 seconds left in the third period, and then Darren Helm scored in overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 victory over the visiting New York Rangers on Saturday.

Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves in his first game since March 3, but Detroit finally broke through against the New York goalie. Helm also scored in the third period for the Red Wings.

Derek Stepan and Chris Kreider scored for the Rangers, who also got Rick Nash back after an extended absence.

The Red Wings tied it in the final minute of regulation when Richards scored on a power play. Detroit had its goalie pulled at the time, and the Rangers twice came within inches of scoring into the empty net.

Sabres 3, Hurricanes 2 — Jack Eichel scored his second goal on a breakaway at 4:59 of overtime, lifting Buffalo at home.

Evander Kane, who on Friday was exonerated by an Erie County (N.Y.) district attorney from facing charges in an alleged sexual assault Dec. 27, had two assists and Chad Johnson made 28 saves for the Sabres, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Marcus Foligno also scored.

Victor Rask and Phillip Di Giuseppe scored for Carolina, which had won two in a row. Cam Ward made 21 saves.

Wild 4, Canadiens 1 — Mikael Granlund scored a pair of goals, at 13:20 of the first period and 11:49 of the second, to break a 1-1 stalemate and lift Minnesota over host Montreal.

Devan Dubnyk made 30 saves for the Wild; a tying first-period goal by Canadiens’ Mark Barberio at 12:13 was his only blemish.

Jets 3, Avalanche 2 — Winnipeg rallied from a 2-1 deficit with a pair of third-period goals and defeated visiting Colorado.

Trailing, 2-1, in the second after Mark Scheifele answered goals by Erick Johnson (4:02) and Matt Duchene (5:55) on the power play, the Avalanche got a tying goal by Drew Stafford at 7:26 of the third and then struck for the go-ahead tally by Adam Lowry at 9:01.

Panthers 5, Flyers 4 — Nick Bjugstad and Aleksander Barkov scored shootout goals for Florida while Roberto Luongo made saves on Sam Gagner and Nick Cousins for the victory over visiting Philadelphia.

Luongo redeemed himself after allowing Shayne Gostisbehere’s tying goal at 18:05 that sent it into overtime.
