Stephen D. LaFerre
Stephen D. LaFerre, 77, of Wadsworth, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. A graduate of Dover High School, he served his country in the Army Reserves in the early 60s.
He earned his bachelor of science in journalism degree from Ohio University in 1967, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity.
A passionate advocate of the tire industry for more than 30 years, he began his professional career with Modern Tire Dealer magazine in Akron in 1967. He was later employed by B.F. Goodrich in their tire group public relations department and continued when BFG merged with Uniroyal Tire Co. and then when Michelin purchased the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company. After leaving Michelin he was a consultant for various publications until his retirement in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald and mother, Mary. He is survived by his wife of 49 wonderful years, Carol; daughter Terri (Jeff) Lamm; grandchildren, Wayne (Kristy) Stripe, Samantha (Ben) Mahan, Laura (Brian) Sarlouis; great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Lindsey, and his dear canine companion Max. His family and friends will miss his infectious smile, his wit, his enjoyment of life and his love.
An informal celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Bayberry Estates Clubhouse, 550 Arcadia Road, Wadsworth, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Summa Cardiovascular Institute’s Heart Valve Clinic, Summa Foundation, Akron, Ohio.
