Waterfront is transit-starved

Jon Chesto’s March 6 Business story on subsidized parking in the Seaport neglects to mention one of the biggest drivers of the booming area’s excessive demand for parking: the fact that the Seaport is woefully underserved by transit.

For people coming from Boston and points south, the transit options are extremely limited, with only the Silver Line bus providing any real service. For those coming from north of the city, driving is the only viable way to get to and from the area, thanks in large part to the lack of a North-South Rail Link.

Any serious discussion of the Seaport’s growth and how best to manage it must include greatly improving its transit options.
