Questions raised as a robot is thrust into line of duty

RE “POLICE use of bomb-carrying robot raises ethical questions’’ (Page A9, July 10): Why is there an ethical question concerning the use of bomb-carrying robots? The one in Dallas killed an armed suspect in the fatal shootings of five officers, without any further police or civilian deaths. I think people should be thankful, instead of do-gooders questioning the morality.

I am also a huge fan of the use of armed drones during war. ANYTHING that can prevent even one soldier’s death is OK by me. I’m sorry for the civilians who get killed in the process, but it wasn’t just William Tecumseh Sherman who said, “War is hell.’’

Likewise, in the case of law enforcement, I’m for anything that will save officers’ or civilians’ lives.
