Performer Mario Cantone says he’s still perfecting his impression of President Trump’s communications director Anthony Scaramucci (inset).
“He’s in me . . . yet he’s not in me totally,’’ Cantone said, adding, “I mean that as a character.’’
Cantone did a fiery impression of the new Trump staff member on Comedy Central’s “The President Show’’ on Thursday night. The sketch went viral — which Stoneham-native Cantone doesn’t mind at all.
“I’ve been around forever. I [expletive] deserve it,’’ said the actor and comedian, known for his work in “Sex and the City’’ and on Broadway.
Cantone — who called the Globe right before making an appearance on “The View’’ — said he started working on his Scaramucci impression days ago, before Scaramucci’s rant to New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizzabecame big news. (That rant included some memorable, unprintable words about chief strategist Steve Bannon.)
Cantone said there is a Boston connection to his Comedy Central appearance. Anthony Atamanuik (above right, with Cantone), who plays Trump on “The President Show,’’ is the son of Emerson College faculty member Marlena Yannetti. Years ago, Yannetti cast Cantone, who went to Emerson, in a production of “West Side Story.’’ He played Chino.
“I was riveting,’’ he said.
