The 2019 Sundance Film Festival lineup is out, and Cambridge native Mindy Kaling’s new movie is on the list. The actress and writer announced the news on social media.

Directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Kaling, “Late Night’’ stars Emma Thompson as a famous late-night talk show host who hires her first female staff writer (Kaling) in an attempt to assuage viewers concerned with a lack of diversity. Per the Sundance listing, “her decision has unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women separated by culture and generation are united by their love of a biting punchline.’’

According to Sundance, “Late Night’’ will be shown in January along with 111 other features, which were chosen from a record high of 14,259 submissions.LILLIAN BROWN
