We’d watched several hours of the Senate confirmation hearings before realizing that Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court is not, in fact, the same guy who hosts “Dancing With the Stars.’’
But we’re not alone in thinking that Neil Gorsuch (left), Trump’s choice for the Supreme Court, does look a whole lot like Harverhill’s own Tom Bergeron, who, as far as we know, has spent exactly zero time adjudicating cases since graduating from Northern Essex Community College.
This week, with all the hype surrounding the Senate hearings, singer Josh Groban tweeted: “Who else thinks @Tom_Bergeron should play Gorsuch in the CSpan original movie.’’
Bergeron seemed humored.
“I love the idea of a C-SPAN movie! All the excitement of C-SPAN in a film. Sponsored by Ambien,’’ he tweeted.
When another of his Twitter followers expressed surprise that Bergeron was being considered for the Supreme Court, he replied: “Nope. I don’t even wear robes at home. Briefs, yes.’’
Setting aside the fact that Bergeron doesn’t wear robes and knows next to nothing about the law, he also makes a lot more money interviewing celebrities on “Dancing With the Stars’’ (reportedly $150,000 per episode) than Supreme Court justices make ruling on issues like civil rights and abortion ($251,800 annually). Even if nominated to the high court, we’re guessing Bergeron would vote no.
