The University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team had only one starter score in double figures, trailed by as many as 12 points with 3:49 remaining, and was unable to find a solution for Isaiah Miles in a 78-70 Atlantic 10 Conference loss at Saint Joseph’s.
Miles had a game-high 27 points on 8-for-14 shooting and 12 rebounds to help the Hawks (17-3, 6-1 A-10), winners of 13 of their last 14, extend their winning streak to six consecutive games.
Trey Davis was the lone starter who managed to score in double digits with 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting for UMass (8-11, 1-6).
Seth Berger led the Minutemen with 17 points off the bench while Jabarie Hinds (13 points) and Zach Coleman(10) also made contributions as reserves.
Loyola (Md.) 71, Holy Cross 54 —Jarred Jones led the visiting Greyhounds (5-14, 4-4 Patriot) with 20 points on 10-for-14 shooting and had 7 rebounds to go along with 3 steals and 2 assists. Karl Charles led the Crusaders (8-12, 3-6) with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Malachi Alexander chipped in 11 points.
BU 76, Army 67 —Cheddi Mosely had a team-high 25 points on 7-for-11 shooting (5 of 7 from the 3-point arc) and Nathan Dieudonne had 17 points and 18 rebounds to help the Terriers (11-11, 4-5 Patriot) snap a two-game losing streak. Kyle Wilson led host Army (12-8, 3-5) with a game-high 25 points.
Women’s basketballSyracuse 62, BC 61 —The Eagles (13-7, 1-6 ACC) fell short in their bid for a second conference win when Cornelia Fondren made the first of two fouls shot attempts to break a 61-61 tie with two seconds remaining. Brianna Butler led host Syracuse (15-6, 5-3) with 22 points and Kelly Hughes (21 points, 13 rebounds) led BC.
Connecticut 94, Tulsa 30 —The top-ranked and undefeated Huskies (19-0, 9-0 American) remained unchallenged in conference play after taking a commanding 53-12 halftime lead and getting a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds from Breanna Stewart. Katie Lou Samuelson and Moriah Jefferson chipped in 14 apiece for UConn.
Rhode Island 80, UMass 79 — The host Minutewomen (6-13, 0-7 A-10) came up short after Bria Stallworth (20 points) hit a 3-pointer at the final buzzer. Charise Wilson led URI (10-9, 4-3) with a game-high 28 points.
