BB&N gets piercing win

Ryan Eamer set his feet, locked his eyes down field, and the Buckingham Browne & Nichols junior quarterback finally found what he had been searching for in the first three quarters against St. Sebastian’s on Saturday afternoon. The dagger.

With host BB&N in control of a 12-7 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, Eamer connected with junior TJ Maley on a 75-yard touchdown pass that proved the crushing blow in a 20-14 victory over St. Sebastian’s.

“We ran the trips to the one side, [St. Sebastian’s] ran the one-high [safety], so we knew we had one-on-one coverage,’’ Eamer said. “I knew TJ, probably the fastest kid on our team, could beat [the defender] downfield.

“So I just threw it up and let him run under it.’’

Andy Elkins ran for the 2-point conversion to give BB&N (2-1) the buffer it needed to withstand a parting shot from St. Sebastian’s (1-2), which closed within 6 in the fourth quarter when quarterback Michael Phelps hit Alex Cherry with a 4-yard TD toss.

BB&N running backs Zack Cyr and Devin Marrocco combined for more than 100 yards, with Marrocco (20 carries, 82 yards) punching it in on a 1-yard run in the first quarter to score the game’s first touchdown.

Phelps threw a 10-yard TD to Louis Hansen to give St. Sebastian’s a 7-6 lead at intermission, but Eamer tallied on a third-quarter quarterback sneak from 2 yards out to give the Knights a 12-7 lead.

After the St. Sebastian’s offense was unable to generate any momentum, Eamer put the game away for the Knights when he made the Arrows pay at the start the fourth quarter, with his piercing 75-yard dagger to Maley.

“It wasn’t perfect by any means,’’ said BB&N coach Mike Willey, “but our guys are really tough and they react well.’’
