Ask Jim Pugh about Cam Peach, his senior captain at Hamilton-Wenham Regional, and his answer is straightforward, and simple.
“He brings things to another level,’’ said Pugh, in his second season as coach after a long run at Masconomet.
Peach did a little bit of everything as the host Generals gouged Cape Ann Baker foe Georgetown, 37-8, on Saturday afternoon in Wenham for their fifth straight win.
In the first quarter, the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound Peach grabbed a pair of catches for 33 yards, helping extend a drive that led to the Generals’ first score. Later in the quarter, patrolling the backfield, he stepped up on a long pass and reached up with one hand to secure an interception, one of four H-W picks (Bryson Cala had two). Peach returned it 13 yards, hurdling a would-be defender.
Billy Whelan then directed H-W down the field for a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Peach ripped off a 37-yard run to the Georgetown 3. Whelan took it in from there. But Peach wasn’t done. Lining up deep to field a punt later in the second, Peach broke numerous tackles to complete a 47-yard return for a touchdown, and a 35-0 halftime cushion.
“I was just excited,’’ said Peach, who racked up 146 total yards before family and friends. “I wanted to put on a show for them.’’
Said Pugh of Peach: “I’ve been here for two years now and he is special, he just makes plays.’’
