More free transfers allowed
BURIED IN the MBTA’s fare increase announcement was great news for riders who have to make multiple connections to complete their trip. Starting July 1, the MBTA’s revised transfer policy will allow subway riders with CharlieCards two free transfers to buses instead of just one (“How much will your new T fare be?’’ Metro, March 8).
This means that someone traveling from, say, Dorchester to North Cambridge, who has to take a bus to the subway and then another bus to their destination, will only pay $2.25 instead of the current double fare of $3.70. That is nearly a 40 percent savings.
Props to the MBTA board for finally recognizing this fair inequity and remedying it.
