David Milch, the creator of “NYPD Blue’’ and “Deadwood,’’ is trying to unload his Martha’s Vineyard compound. According to a recent story in The Hollywood Reporter, the 70-year-old show runner has earned more than $100?million over his career, but is deep in debt due to a gambling problem and owes the IRS $17?million. As a result, Milch and his wife, Rita, have sold their house in Los Angeles and are now trying to find a buyer for their 22-acre waterfront property in Lambert’s Cove on Martha’s Vineyard. The property, which is listed for $6.9 million by Sotheby’s International Realty, includes a main house, guest house, and 600-square-foot “romantic pond house.’’ (The main house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and the guest house, which has a “beachy decor,’’ has four bedrooms.) The property also includes 300 feet of private beach and a tennis court. Milch attended Yale and later taught there. In the early ’80s, he started writing for television, working on “Hill Street Blues’’ for five seasons before creating “NYPD Blue’’ with Steven Bochco. From 2004 to 2006, Milch produced the HBO series “Deadwood.’’
