Toboggans? Skating? Massive slides? Move over, Winter Olympics: Boston Common hosts the Children’s Winter Festival on Feb. 21, with activities geared toward housebound children (and their parents).
Kids can ride a 45-foot-long toboggan tunnel, slide down a 30-foot-high “Everest’’ mountain, and explore snow mazes. There’s also free ice-skating and skate rentals at the Boston Common Frog Pond, sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation. (The ice-skating happens all week; visit www.highlandstreet.org for more information.)
DJs from Magic 106.7 will emcee the festivities, and reps from the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Outdoors Rx program will host scavenger hunts and nature walks. L.L. Bean’s stylish Bootmobile will also be on the scene (imagine: a massive boot on wheels), and the company will host a boot-tossing game, similar to a beanbag toss.
Learn more at www.cityofboston.gov/parks. The party starts at 10 a.m.
