You can almost hear the music in Chatham
Don Krohn’

Photographer Don Krohn’s new book, “On Cape Cod,’’ features photographs from across the Cape. Each week in this section we’ll feature one photo from each of the Cape’s 15 towns and Krohn’s descriptions of his work.

‘Band Time in Chatham’’ is the song that begins every Friday night concert of the Chatham Band, “here on Cape Cod’s elbow land,’’ as the lyrics go. The band traces its roots back to 1931 and has been playing these free weekly concerts at Kate Gould Park every summer since the late 1940s. There are sing-alongs and dancing segments for children and for adults, and the evening always ends with a “Bunny Hop’’ parade around the bandstand, followed of course by “The Star Spangled Banner.’’ It’s an evening of pure, enjoyable, completely unironic Americana.

Krohn will be speaking and signing his book Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at Provincetown Library, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at Titcomb’s Books in East Sandwich and Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. at The Gallery Upstairs in Orleans.
