
Alpaca Suri, in business in Hingham Square for the past 15 years, will close its brick-and-mortar store at 28 South St. and move its business fully online.
Owned by Susana Tavara Hasting, the shop sells blankets, scarves, hats, mittens, socks, and other items made of alpaca fiber. The store will close April 1 and will hold its first-ever sale, with markdowns of 15-20 percent on coats and sweaters for men, women, and children. Tavara Hasting made the switch so she can spend more time with her family, according to a press release from the business.
Blue Ribbon BBQ opened its third location at 342 Washington St. in Dedham on Feb. 12, according to its Facebook page. The restaurant offers sandwiches and platters, side dishes, and daily specials. Also on the menu are Feed-a-Crowd combos such as the Greensboro Brown Bag, which includes two pints of boneless meat and two pints of side dishes served with barbecue sauces, pickles, cornbread, and rolls. Blue Ribbon BBQ says its meat is cooked over oak and hickory hardwoods at low temperatures for long periods of time. Its other locations are in West Newton and Arlington.
Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood has raised $25 million, including a $3 million gift and five $1 million gifts, in the largest fund-raising effort in the history of the school. The effort was launched at the school’s 50th anniversary gala in March 2014. The money will help to build facilities and provide scholarships and financial aid to students who attend Xaverian. The school’s first capital campaign concluded in 2004 and raised $12.1 million.
The Middleborough Police Station Building Committee will apply for a $150,000 grant from the Massachusetts Historical Commission to restore and renovate the police station on North Main Street, its chairman says. The Police Department will move to a new building on Wood Street in the fall, opening up the existing space to other groups. Several town agencies have expressed interest in relocating to the 1820s building.
