The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Associationin Salem welcomed two new members to its board of trustees. Kenneth C. Turino was the previous director of exhibitions and adult programs at The Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities and currently oversees community engagement programs at Historic New England. David J. Silva is provost and academic vice president at Salem State University, and was previously invited professor in language studies at Kyung Hee University in Seoul.
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Beverly Farmsis partnering with NuDay Syria to provide schools in northern Syria with 300 book bags filled with school supplies such as notebooks, pens, and rulers. The program, called Book Bag Ministry, will help educate children in the refugee camps, some of whom have lived there for up to five years. At Endicott College’s “E-Cubed!’’ event March 9 in Beverly, local entrepreneurs and startups will attend seminars led by the chief executives of iRobot and Gloucester Innovation. Companies such as IBM, Microsoft, and Peoples Bank will participate as well.
