New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Governor Charlie Baker, Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch, and about 1,000 others had their heads shaved at Granite Telecommunications’ fifth annual “Saving by Shaving’’ event to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The company donated $5,000 for each participant who parted with their locks, and higher amounts for local politicians and celebrities. The event, held at Granite’s Quincy headquarters, raised $6.5 million for the cancer institute, according to a company Facebook post.

A new pirate-themed playground is being constructed on Rexhame Beach in Marshfield to honor the life of the late Matty Kelly, a Marshfield resident who died several years ago. Kelly’s friends and family have hosted many fund-raisers for the playground, including weekly line dancing lessons at the Elks Lodge in Marshfield every Thursday, according to a website devoted to the cause. Ground was broken on the playground site on March 6, which would have been Kelly’s 28th birthday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony after completion will be held on May 12.

Design Mark Industries, a Wareham-based company that manufactures electronic membrane switches and touch screens, has rebranded with a new company logo, color scheme, and website, according to a press release from the company. Design Mark produces custom graphic overlays for products, rubber keypads, and weatherproof labels. The company’s new website is targeted to engineers and includes descriptions of available products and services, along with technical information. The new logo has a green color scheme — a nod to the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Relay for Life of Mansfield, Foxborough, and Sharonheld an “Eat and Greet’’ event to kick off the American Cancer Society’s relay fund-raising season. A potluck supper was served, family members of cancer patients spoke, and people registered for the relay, to be held June 16-17 at Ahern Middle School, 111 Mechanic St., Foxborough. The group’s goal is raising $100,000 to help prevent cancer, fund research, and provide support to patients.
