It’s cold. It’s dark by 4 p.m. Halloween is a memory, and the holidays have yet to arrive. Kids are restless.
So bring them to The Rockwell in Somerville (formerly the Davis Square Theatre) for “Kerplunk.’’ The improvised musical, hosted by a jolly penguin named Pablito, is designed for kids ages 3 to 12. The hourlong show is ideal for smaller theatergoers who might squirm in a traditional setting and aren’t quite ready for, say, “Hamilton.’’
Five comics from the Catalyst Comedy troupe — the team behind the spicier adult show Boston’s Unscripted Musical Project — act out whatever story line pint-sized audience members request. There’s no script; the show is entirely led by imaginative kids who can insist on good guys, villains, space pirates, or talking dogs. They might also be summoned onstage to act out parts and to belt out songs, accompanied by a pianist and overseen by Pablito.
Shows happen on Saturdays beginning on Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. Adults are $10; kids 12 and under are $5. Get tickets at www.eventbrite.com.
