A Lawrence man was arrested Sunday for allegedly killing his girlfriend inside her home in that city, according to a spokeswoman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
Tony Ventura, 32, is set to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Monday morning, according to a statement from Carrie Kimball-Monahan, the spokeswoman.
Lawrence police found Ventura’s girlfriend, Maria Morton, also 32, dead when they visited her home at 305 Prospect St. about noon on Sunday in response to a request for assistance, Kimball-Monahan said.
Morton’s next-door neighbor, Jose Carney, 42, said he had not spoken to Morton, but he sometimes saw her outside with two children, a boy and a girl whose ages he estimated at 6 to 8.
Early in the morning, he said, he would see her wait for the school bus to pick up one child and then drive away with the other in her van.
“I honestly don’t know them all that well,’’ he said. “They just moved in not too long ago.’’
A Facebook page bearing Morton’s name lists a profession of “full time mommy’’ and includes photos of the woman smiling widely with two young children and a man identified as Ventura.
By Sunday evening, the page was filled with remembrances of Morton from friends and family.
Carney said he was not aware of any problems in the household before Sunday afternoon.
“I just heard a lot of cops, and when I looked out the window, that’s when all the commotion was there,’’ he said. “It was very, very, very shocking. A sad situation.’’
