A Pico Rivera man was charged Monday with killing his partner during an argument and fight last week at their home, a detective said.

Brian Harrington, 42, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 43-year-old Omar Arvizu during his Monday arraignment at Norwalk Superior Court, court records show.

He faces up to life in prison if convicted, said Pamela Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Count District Attorney’s Office.

Deputies went to the house in the 9400 block of Harrell Street in Pico Rivera around 4:50 a.m. on March 2 after getting a call of a man not breathing. Arvizu died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Harrington was taken to a hospital for medical issues that detectives declined to disclose.

Investigators later interviewed him. He was arrested on March 6.

“Alcohol and arguing led to a fight,” sheriff’s Lt. Steven De Jong said. He didn’t know what the argument was about.

Harrington allegedly stomped on Arvizu’s head while the victim was on the ground, according to De Jong.

The couple apparently have a history of fighting when they drink, the lieutenant said. There was one time it was reported, he added.

Booking records show deputies arrested Arvizu the night of July 9, 2024. He posted bond and was released the next day.

Arvizu threw something at Harrington who was struck, De Jong said.

It wasn’t clear what happened afterward. There was no criminal case found under Arvizu’s name in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Harrington returns to Norwalk Superior Court on April 17 for a hearing. As of Tuesday, he remained in custody at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $2 million bail.
