ERIE

Water-efficient turf replacement projects may qualify for rebate

Erie will offer rebates to those looking to replace their turf for a more water-efficient option.

According to the Erie website, the rebate program will offer up to $2,000 to qualifying projects. Projects of at least 200 square feet of maintained irrigated grass with no water or water-efficient plants can qualify for the rebate.

Projects must be submitted by Aug. 1, according to the Erie website, and completed and visited by a town staff member by Oct. 20. Rebate funding is based on a first-come, first-served system and is contingent upon project completion and confirmation from a town rebate representative.

The project must receive water from Erie to qualify. Artificial turf does not qualify for the rebate. The website also states that irrigation systems also be upgraded alongside turf replacement, as existing sprinkler systems would not be compatible with water-efficient lawns.

A design of the project must be submitted that includes a proposed project idea, irrigation design, plant list and design as well as a homeowners association approval, if necessary.

The rebate applies to projects between 200 square feet and 1,000 square feet. However, projects over 1,000 square feet do qualify, but the rebate will only apply to up to 1,000 square feet.
