The Woodland Christian varsity baseball team improved to now 8-0 in Sierra Delta League play following a five-inning 12-0 road win over Rio Vista Thursday afternoon.

After winning 19-8 in the first game of the series this past Tuesday, the Cardinals (12-2, 8-0 SDL) wrapped up the series sweep with a fast 12-0 win.

They got off to a scolding start, scoring 6 runs in the top of the first, followed by 2 runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to take the 12-0 lead and win via the 10-run mercy rule.

Junior Jordan Villanuva pitched a stress-free four innings, allowing 3 hits, walking one and striking out 9 batters. Senior Jandro Torres came in to close it out and struck out 2 in his lone inning.

Senior Parker Howald led the way at the plate, racking up a game-high 3 RBI, 2 hits, and 2 runs scored. Fellow senior Owen Tessier also had 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Junior Jayden Badhesha had 2 RBI on the night to go with 2 hits and a run scored. Senior Ethan Howald also chipped in with 2 RBI.

The Cardinals will take a break from SDL play next week but will play four tournament games, starting with Castle Park on Monday, Eldorado out of Las Vegas on Tuesday, Lincoln on Wednesday, and New Roads on Thursday.

They will resume SDL play on Tuesday, April 8, with a home game against San Juan set for 4 p.m.
