The Colorado volleyball team vented some frustration
The Buffaloes ended a six-game losing streak in dominant fashion, sweeping visiting Cincinnati 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 at the CU Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
In just the second matchup between the programs and the first in 18 years, the Buffs ended their longest losing streak since a seven-game slide in the 2020 season. CU (11-14, 4-9 Big 12) trailed 21-20 in the opening set but scored the final five points to take the early advantage. A late 10-2 run in the third set paved the way for the sweep, which was the fourth victorious sweep of the season for the Buffs but their first in Big 12 play.
The Buffs put together one of their strongest hitting performances of Big 12 play, finishing with a .306 hitting percentage. Cincinnati recorded a .075 mark. Ana Burilovic finished with 14 kills for the Buffs, and Lily Dwinell added 10. Senior setter Taylor Simpson recorded 33 assists.
“Great to get a win, especially in three. You don’t see that very often in conference play,” CU head coach Jese Mahoney said in a release. “I thought we were really good (today) in a lot of areas. We passed extremely well. We served extremely well when we weren’t making service errors, but were aggressive in that field, which was good. I thought Taylor Simpson did a great job moving the ball around, and we got a lot of production all over the front line. So, feels good to get a win.”
