Suspect hits power pole, killed in crash

Police say a man who was fleeing officers after a domestic disturbance call was killed when he was ejected from his vehicle after it crashed into a power pole.

The West St. Paul police department gave the following details on its Facebook page:

About 1:43 a.m. Sunday a female called 911 to report a 35-year-old man threatening residents and damaging property within a West St. Paul home. She said that this man had consumed large amounts of alcohol and had used drugs.

When officers saw the man driving east on Moreland Avenue, they attempted to pull him over to arrest him on suspicion of domestic assault and other charges, but he refused to pull over and fled, police said. When officers tried again to stop him a few blocks away, the driver crossed Robert Street, lost control of his vehicle and struck a power pole and two unoccupied vehicles in a driveway near Moreland Avenue and Kruse Street. The driver was ejected from his vehicle and medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Gunfire locks down mall; no injuries

At least one gunman fired shots outside one of the doors leading into Northtown Mall in Blaine on Sunday afternoon, but no one was injured, according to a news release from the Blaine Police Department.

About 3:30 p.m. Sunday police received multiple 911 calls about gunshots being fired outside the mall. Officers from local police departments and troopers from the state patrol locked down the mall. One man was arrested in the area on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Preliminary investigation from video surveillance footage and evidence shows a fight between two groups spawned the shooting.
