Roger Darryl Fons, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on May 23, 2025 at the age of 77, surrounded by his children. He was the son of the late Ray- mond Anthony Fons and Doris Ann Scofield Fons. Although they parted ways, Roger and Deborah Ireson had two children and were both actively involved as loving parents and grandparents. He is ter, Christy Walker (Eric); survived by his daughhis son, Roger Darryl Fons II (Elizabeth); and his grandchildren, Ella Walker, Callan Walker, Roger Darryl Fons III and Charlie Fons. Roger loved his family fiercely, was proud of their accomplishments and loved being “Grandpa Rog”. Roger bragged about being the oldest of the seven children in his family. His sib- lings and spouses include Carol Brown (Dr. Kerry), David Fons, William Fons (Carol Anne), Robert Fons (Christa), Cheryl Fons and Joseph ‘Bud’ Fons (Donna). Their annual reunion in Michigan was one of his most-anticipated activities each year. Born in Michigan on September 16, 1947, Roger became a helicopter pilot in the Army and proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. He was a successful business owner and entrepreneur throughout his career and moved to Lynchburg in his retirement to be near family.
Roger neverer met a stranger and was a spirited conversationalist with an infectious smile. He deeplye cared about our country and was a true patriot. He was an avid reader, loved movies, and enjoyeded cheering on the Washington Capitals.
Roger had an immense personality, an unforget- table laugh, and will be missed by so many who loved him. A celebration of life is being scheduled in Lynchburg, Virginia, at a later date.
