President Donald Trump tried to use taxes as a weaponby threatening to put new tariffs on Mexico and China. That would have raised prices and hurt the consumer. Trump’s top trade advisers warned him against doing that but he initially tuned them out. It was his way or the highway. The threats were more of him sending dog whistles to his base. He played the tough guy. This is a no-brainer: Tariffs will hurt the economy.
I saw that somebody from Hazel Crest commented in Speak Out about how former President George W. Bush and former President Barack Obama showed respect for each other. Here is a new twist for you: Some super wealthypeople sent a letter to 2020 candidates who are running for president and asked them to be taxed more. The open letter stated that the new revenue should come from the most financially fortunate and not the middle class. The letter also stated that a tax on the wealthy could help address climate change and also improve health outcomes… It should not be overlooked when some of our wealthiest individuals ask for higher taxes on themselves. I agree. The middle class has carried this burden long enough. Good for them for stepping in.
