catches fire

A structure that was under construction caught fire early Wednesday morning.

The home, located in the 1552 E. Third Avenue near Ken Pratt Boulevard and East County Line Road, caught fire at about 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Longmont Public Safety spokesperson Robin Ericson.

Ericson said when Longmont Fire arrived on scene, one side of the duplex was fully involved in fire, but firefighters were able to stop the spread to the adjacent unit. Ericson said investigators were on site Wednesday but did not find the cause of the fire.

State troopers respond to injury crash near school

One person was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash near Niwot Road and Audubon Avenue in Niwot.

According to Colorado State Trooper Gabriel Moltrer, crews were dispatched to an injury crash at 3:54 p.m. on Wednesday outside of Niwot High School.

At 4:48 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol was notified that a car was blocking Niwot Road near the entrance of the high school. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

OSMP seeks volunteers for heritage center

Boulder County Parks & Open Space seeks volunteers to staff the Agricultural Heritage Center, 8348 Ute Highway, in Longmont.

The county is looking for tour guides, farmhouse docents and gardeners to help take care of the restored buildings, museum exhibits, livestock pens, and a period-furnished farmhouse that sits on 465 acres of agricultural open space. Tour guides and docents will teach visitors about early 1900s agriculture. If you’re interested, apply by Feb. 25. Training starts on March 15.

Gardeners will help maintain the World War I-era heirloom garden by planting, weeding, watering and harvesting plants growing there. Apply by April 1. County gardening training is ongoing. For more information, go to bouldercounty.gov/volunteer/parks-and-open-space/.

Two art, science events at Boulder library

Artists and scientists will put on live events at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25 and 2:30 p.m. March 9 as part of the Empty Space: A LASP Artist in Residence Program Exhibition at Boulder Public Library Canyon Theater and Gallery, 1001 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder.

Three artists — Mario Miguel Echevarria, Alexandra Lockhart and Clark Riley are participating in the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics residency program.

They were involved in science group meetings and built hardware destined for space, among other things. Their work is on display at the gallery through March 31.
