Carl Walter Boznanski passed away peacefully with family nearby in Yorba Linda, CA, on January 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Adevoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was deeply committed to his faith and community.
Born on June 15, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, Carl was the eldest son of Walter and Blanche Boznanski. He shared his childhood with his younger brother, Edward. A proud Brooklyn native, Carl was a graduate of St. Francis Prep Catholic School and carried the resilience and toughness of his Brooklyn roots with him throughout his life.
He continued his Catholic education at the University of Notre Dame where he graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. His time at Notre Dame shaped much of Carl’s penchant for his faith and his community.
After graduation, Carl’s dream of working in the space industry came to fruition when he joined North American Rockwell. This role moved him to Southern California in 1958, the same year his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. In his aerospace career he was proud to have been involved in managing engineering systems for the Apollo spaceship.
In California, he met another East Coast transplant in Linda Danulevich and found his forever love. They met sitting next to each other at Mass at St. Callistus in Garden Grove and got married in 1969 at Holy Family Church. The couple soon moved to the burgeoning city of Yorba Linda where they would live together the rest of Carl’s life.
Carl earned an MBA from USC and transitioned into the commercial real estate appraisal field in which he worked for 53years. In 1984 he started his own real estate appraisal firm –Boznanski &Company –and ran that small company in Orange and Anaheim for 38 years. He found great satisfaction in appraising commercial and industrial properties and unique properties like Anaheim Stadium. His business was a true family affair, with children and grandchildren often working alongside him during the summers.
Carl was a lifelong advocate for his community. He was a respected member of the Yorba Linda Planning Commission for 27 years, playing a key role in how much of the City developed in the 1980s, ‘90s, and 2000s. His commitment to St. Martin de Porres Parish was equally important to him, where he served as a greeter and usher. He most enjoyed his many years on the Notre Dame Club of Orange County Board and as President, including chairing several successful Notre Dame/USC weekends and Communion Breakfasts, and was honored as their Person of the Year in 1997.
Carl’s community involvement extended to various organizations, including the Yorba Linda Water District, President for the Servite High School Parent Guild, Board Member/President for the Rampart Business Association for 35+ years, and enjoyed time coaching and scorekeeping in youth sports in Yorba Linda for his sons.
Carl is survived by his beautiful wife and worldwide travel companion of 55 years Linda, brother Edward (Carol), sons Brent (Kerry) and Blake (Erica), grandchildren Brady, Bryn, Dylan, Beckett, and Tanner, and nieces Ashley (Nick) and Brittany.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am on Monday, February 3rd at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 19767 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda, CA 92886. A reception will follow.
