Born in Plattsburgh, NY.
Passed away at his home in Sparks, NV on Jan 2, 2023 after a brief illness. He graduated from Mt. Eden High School in 1964. Don attended Chabot and San Jose State College, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Journalism. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 – 1972.
Following his service, he embarked on his career in journalism. He worked for newspapers in Oregon and Arizona before being hired by the Reno Gazette and Journal in 1979. Don worked as a sports and news journalist in the Reno area until his retirement in 2007. He won several awards for his writing, including Nevada Journalist of the Year. A book of his many articles about the towns and people of Nevada, “Stories from the Sagebrush”, was published in 2000.
Don was an avid sports fan all his life. Spring training in Arizona was a particular pleasure. Don also enjoyed travel, visiting many countries and several continents over his lifetime.
A journey to Australia and New Zealand was a highlight.
Don is survived by his brothers Steven, of Alford, MA and Michael, of Hayward, and nephews Christopher and Matthew.
He is also survived by his aunt Eleanor Tart of Plattsburg, NY and many cousins in California, Virginia, and New York.
His burial will take place at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley on a date to be determined.
