Pair found dead in Hammond
Two men were shot to death early Sunday in a Hammond double homicide.
Gary Shanklin, 23, of East Chicago, and a second man, whose identity has not yet been released, were found shot dead on the 500 block of Michigan Street, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.
Shanklin was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:22 a.m. Both deaths were ruled homicides. An autopsy is scheduled for both men Monday.
A Hammond police spokesman could not be immediately reached.
A man named Gary Shanklin — with the same name, middle initial, age and address — was released in January after he was acquitted of the Oct. 13, 2021, deaths of Christopher Burks, 52, of Chicago and his girlfriend Nalisha D. Martin, 43, of Hammond.
