Excessive speed suspected in fatal crash on 287 north of Longmont

The Colorado State Patrol says that excessive speed is suspected in the crash that claimed the lives of two men on U.S. 287 north of Longmont on Friday.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, CSP spokesman Gabriel Moltrer said on Saturday.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.

The head-on crash north of Yellowstone Road, which happened about 8:42 a.m., resulted in the deaths of a 36-year-old man from Loveland and a 33-year-old man from Longmont.

All lanes of 287 were closed for much of the day.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will identify the victims and notify the next of kin.

Twin Lakes access to close for repairs on Monday

An access point at Twin Lakes Open Space in Gunbarrel will be closed for repairs starting Monday. Crews will begin work to replace the access boardwalk and steps from Twin Lakes Road to the East Lake Trail.

Visitors will need to use another access point during construction. The project is expected to be completed by Jan. 26, depending on weather.

Police investigate sex assault Saturday on Boulder Creek Path

Police detectives are investigating an early-morning sexual assault that happened along the Boulder Creek Path west of Foothills Parkway and north of Baseline Road early Saturday morning, according to a Boulder Police Department post on X. A woman was reportedly sexually assaulted by a man while walking along the bike path just before 3 a.m. The suspect was described as a man with “mid-forehead-length brown hair and a deep, low voice,” according to the release.
