Resident of Santa Cruz

Marvin Wayne Orwig, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Santa Cruz. Wayne, to all who knew him, was born in Canton, IL. He graduated from Cuba High School in Cuba, IL in 1962 and promptly joined the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, he earned agood conduct medal, a Vietnam service medal, and a national defense service medal. He left the Navy in 1966 as an Electronics Technician (Radar) second class, stayed in California, and throughout his life he worked in the electronics industry as a test engineer.

Wayne had many hobbies and talents including playing guitar, reading, fishing, camping, bowling, shooting his guns and rifles, and tinkering with all things electronic. He was quick witted, enjoyed performing magic tricks and liked practical jokes. I just found his “mixed nuts” and he would have thought it so funny when the snake popped out and made me jump…you got me dad.

He is survived by his dear friend and wife Patricia; three daughters, Darlene, Melissa, and Cherise; granddaughter, Madison; sister, Lois; and her four children, Carol, Michelle, Marvin, and Herbert; along with several other loved family members. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Vivian, his brother, Kenneth, and his third wife, Mazie.

Join us for Navy funeral honors and sharing memories from 9-9:30am Friday, June 28, 2024, at Frederick Street Park, 168 Frederick St, Santa Cruz prior to scattering his ashes at sea at 10:00am.
